Three Ideals In The DEC and NAEYC Code Of Ethics I Find The Most Significant

I.                   Professional Practice
Professional and Interpersonal Behavior
2. We shall demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity, truthfulness, and honesty in all our professional activities in order to inspire the trust and confidence of the children and families and of those with whom we work (DEC, 2000).

I think this is one of the most important things we should do as professionals. I try to follow this principle not only in my professional life but also in my personal life. I think this speaks highly of one’s moral standard and is essential to carrying oneself with dignity.

IV. Ethical and Evidence Based Practices
2. We shall use every resource, including referral when appropriate, to ensure high quality services are accessible and are provided to children and families (DEC, 2000).

I found this significant because it is our duty to ensure all children and families get the services they need in order to be successful. I also believe the earlier we step in to help, the more successful the child will become.

            Ethical Responsibilities to Children
                        Ideals
1-1.5-To create and maintain safe and healthy settings that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development and that respect their dignity and their contributions (NAEYC, 2005).

I think this is an important ideal to consider because it helps foster healthy relationships. I feel children thrive in an environment when they feel safe. All children should feel that their contributions are needed and worthy and it is our job to ensure them that they are all special in their own way.

Another great resource:
The Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention for Young Children (TACSEI) takes the research that shows which practices improve the social-emotional outcomes for young children with, or at risk for, delays or disabilities and createsFREE products and resources to help decision-makers, caregivers, and service providers apply these best practices in the work they do every day. Most of these free products are available right here on our website for you to immediately view, download and use.
