Here is a really great PowerPoint explaining Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP):

Another great resource:
The Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention for Young Children (TACSEI) takes the research that shows which practices improve the social-emotional outcomes for young children with, or at risk for, delays or disabilities and createsFREE products and resources to help decision-makers, caregivers, and service providers apply these best practices in the work they do every day. Most of these free products are available right here on our website for you to immediately view, download and use.

If you like NAEYC and IRA (International Reading Association), read this interview with Sue Bredekamp and Susan Neuman:

Thanks for sharing these additional resources! The TACSEI website is really informational and I liked the pyramid model on supporting social emotional competence in infants and young children (TACSEI, 2011). Building these relationships and competencies in young children starts with a foundation that you can build upon, so the pyramid visual works perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThe interview you posted was also a great read. It was about the redefinition of literacy with the merge of NAEYC and the IRA. I learned that the definition of developmentally appropriate practices has not changed, but expanded to focus on the individual child and children part of a group (Scholastic, 1998). I see that in my classroom and current curriculum because children are constantly working in small groups and as a community.
Also, the link you posted for the powerpoint on DAP is not working, just so you know.
Thank you for sharing these resources!
Thank you Tara for letting me know the link to the powerpoint did not work. I updated it with a new one. I also added a book by Marian Wright Edelman. I would love to read all of her books!
